JERUSALEM – The members of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, or ISIS, were formed in 2012 by American instructors who worked in a secret base in Jordan, according to the information of the Jordanian officials.
The officials said that dozens of ISIS members were trained at the time as part of a secret aid to the rebels, addressed to the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in Syria. The officials said that the training was not meant to be used for any future campaign in Iraq.
The Jordanian officials have said that all members of ISIS who have received training from the United States to fight in Syria were checked for possible links to extremist groups like al-Qaida.
In February 2012, WND was first to report that the United States, Turkey and Jordan were in possession of a training base for the Syrian rebels in the Jordanian city of Safawi in the desert region in the north of the country.
This report was subsequently confirmed by numerous other media reports.
In March, the German weekly Der Spiegel reported that the Americans were training Syrian rebels in Jordan.
Citing what has been reported is not yet clear if the organizers were the U.S. Army or the U.S. were private companies, but the magazine said that some of the organizers and instructors wore uniforms. Training in Jordan was reported to have focused on the use of anti-tank weapons.
The German magazine reported that about 200 people have received such training during the three months preceding the U.S. plans to train a total of 1,200 members of the Free Syrian Army in two camps in the south and east of the Jordan.
In Britain, the Guardian newspaper also reported that in March the U.S. trainers were seen helping the rebels Syrians in Jordan along with British and French instructors.
Reuters reported that a spokesman for the Department of Defense of the United States declined immediate comment on the report of the German magazine. The French Foreign Ministry and the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Defence of Great Britain, also declined to comment to Reuters.
The Jordanian officials have talked to WND sectarian violence in Iraq and complained concerns about an encroachment into their country, as well as in Syria.
ISIS previously posted a video on YouTube threatening to go on up in Jordan and getting to “slaughter” King Abdullah, who see it as an enemy of Islam.
WND reported last week that, according to sources in the Syrian and Jordanian regime, Saudi Arabia is arming ISIS and the Saudis are a driving force in supporting the group linked to al-Qaida.
WND also has reported that, according to a source Shia in contact with a senior official in the government of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, the Obama administration is aware of from two months that the group is inspired Qaidista in Iraq and recently took more than two Iraqi cities and is now threatening Baghdad.
The source told WND that at least one of the training camps of the Iraqi group the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, Isis, is in the vicinity of the Incirlik Air Base near Adana, Turkey, where there are staff and American equipment.
He called Obama “accomplice” in the attacks that threaten the Maliki government and the United States have contributed to the war in Iraq.
